Rocking the First Lutheran House

Merry Christmas!

Hasn’t the sanctuary and foyer just glowed with welcome and Christmas spirit this Advent? Thank you staff and volunteers who helped us decorate this year.

As the Advent season wraps up, I want to take a moment to look back at the fall here at First Lutheran Church.

And what a busy fall we had. Coming off another successful kick off Sunday and the ever-popular Jesus Radio Superstar sermon series the worship team held their first ever fundraising concert, Rock the House.

The concert was a huge success bringing together favourite songs from all four of the previous Jesus Radio Superstar series. Yvonne and the worship team were also joined by special guests, Hazel Grey, better known here at FLC as Pete and Josanna Justine who played the opening set and joined the worship team for some of the songs. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this a success.

Another wonderful performance we had was the children’s pageant on Dec. 15. Weren’t the kids cute? And what a great Christmas message those kids delivered. Good job and thank you to everyone involved in pulling it off.

For those of you who were here during Advent, you heard about the great work that Liz has been doing with the Conversation Café and the new e-Learning module that is ready online at https://www.dementiafriendlyalberta.ca/resources/elearning-program.html if you haven’t had a look at it we strongly encourage you to take 15 minutes and check it out.

Speaking of Liz’s hard work, registration is open for the Winter Session of Ladies Time Out. There’s still some space left in the fitness classes, in particular Yoga and Pilates. What better way to fulfill that new year’s resolution than signing up for fun, fitness and friendship with LTO.

Finally, FLC has also completed its green transition, you may have noticed the fancy new waste and recycling stations, built by our very own Rachel Blackwell, located throughout the church. We are now sorting out garbage, compost, and recycling.

What a busy season it has been. All of us staff are looking forward to a break and a bit of a breather before we start ramping up for Easter. We hope that the season brings Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love to each of you.

From all of us at FLC Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
